Ocean County Traffic Watch reports at least one of the cars overturned a short distance south of Exit 109 on the southbound side at about 10:37 AM.

One driver was treated for minor injuries at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, but the other driver and a passenger fled. Reports indicate that the pair flagged down a taxi.

The proximity of Monmouth Regional High School and other schools in Tinton Falls triggered a security scenario of sheltering-in-place during the search of the immediate area according to the Asbury Park Press

Police sources say the pair rode in the taxi to Jenkinson's in Point Pleasant Beach and were picked up after the driver called police. The school was taken off lockdown once police identified the pair as being in the Tinton Falls incident.

None of the identities have yet been released.
