HOLMDEL — A crash involving six cars, including a State Police vehicle, shut the northbound Garden State Parkway on Friday afternoon.

Overhead video by CBS New York showed several SUVs, mini vans and sedans crashed into guard rails and on the shoulder of the outer lanes near the PNC Bank Arts Center. At least six ambulances responded to the crash, according to the video.

State Police spokesman Sgt. Jeff Flynn said there were three different crashes in the area and all remain under investigation. Three people were injured, according to Flynn.

The video footage showed a State Police sedan positioned very close to the back of  a blue mini-van with damage to its hatch but the troop car was not involved in the crash, according to Flynn.

The outer lanes reopened around 2:30 p.m., according to New Jersey Fast Traffic.

During the closure delays developed in the northbound express lanes as drivers crossed over from the local lanes. There were also southbound rubbernecking delays in both the local and express lanes.
