Alyssa M. Plath, 23, of Keyport, and Phillip W. Kellerman, 27, of Metuchen are accused of three robberies in Matawan and Marlboro within a week, according to the office of acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni.

They're charged with two first-degree counts of armed robbery, third-degree burglary and theft counts, and two each of possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.

If convicted of the first-degree charges, they would risk prison sentences of up to 20 years.

On January 13, Matawan police responded to a home alarm activated by a brreak-in at about 12:05 PM, finding no one on site when they arrived, but ascertaining that the house had been looted of jewelry.

Six days later, January 19, a 71-year-old Marlboro woman called 911 at about 1:13 PM to report someone in her house with a knife. Authorities said she wasn't hurt, but lost an engagement ring to the burglar.

The following day, workers in the Matawan Pharmacy on Route 34 reported masked individual who brandished a knife and demanded Xanax and money.

Detectives traced ownership of the vehicle involved to Plath and recovered the stolen objects, authorities said.

Plath and Kellerman were placed in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold. Their bail was set at $615,000, with no option for release on payment of 10 percent. The judge also barred them from contacting victims and returning to the sites.
