Owners Charged

The Patch of Brick reports that Keith Morgan, 56 , and wife Shauna Morgan, 43, have each been charged with abandonment, failure to provide sustenance and causing unnecessary suffering by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

Further investigation by the Monmouth County SPCA shows the dog has been owned by the Morgans since 2007 according to the Patch of Brick and that Samauri (Sammy for short) is at least 13 or 14 years old.

Keith was also charged with interfering with an investigation. The charges carry a $1,000 fine and a maximum of six months in jail. As the investigation continues, charges could be added.

Meanwhile, the Red Bank Veterinary Hospital reports more progress as he is nursed back to health. A post on the hospital's Facebook page says Sammy is eating on his own and licking his bowl dry.

In addition, "We are also incorporating passive range of motion and massage for his hindlimbs, which is helping build strength," reports the hospital. "We keep telling Sammy how the world is rooting for him and he continues to gain strength through all of your support and love."
