An overturned Jeep Cherokee brought the commute to a halt on the southbound Garden State Parkway on Wednesday afternoon.

New Jersey State Police spokesman Sgt. First Class Gregory Williams said two people inside the Jeep were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

The express lanes were closed just before exit No. 109 for Red Hill Road in Middletown around 5:30 p.m. according to New Jersey Fast Traffic but rubbernecking delays developed in the local lanes.  Delays went back for several miles to at least the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel. Two lanes were reopened around 6:20 p.m. and all lanes were opened at 6:35 p.m.

Photos showed drivers in the delay getting out of their cars and walking around.
