A pretty robust turnout so far for the first day of the state's Gun Buy Back program in Monmouth County.

Prosecutors Office Spokesman Charles Webster says so far they received over 700 guns at the two churches hosting the event Friday in Asbury Park and Keansburg.

The program also runs today from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. where participants can surrender up to three unloaded guns at the Shiloh Community Fellowship Ministry on Dewitt Avenue in Asbury Park and at the Saint Ann Catholic Church on Carr Avenue in Keansburg. Firearms are fetching up to $250 dollars each, no questions asked.

The buyback initiative is aimed at curbing gun violence. It's sponsored by the State Attorney General's Office in cooperation with the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, local Police Departments and the Faith-based community.

The next state sponsored Gun Buy Back program is headed to Atlantic County. The two-day event to be held at churches in Atlantic City and Pleasantville on March 22 and 23.
