Ocean Temperature Off NJ Cold

It's been a summer of extremes for beachgoers along the Jersey shore.

Those who jump into the ocean for relief from the hot and humid air are met with a chilly jolt.

Ocean temperatures have been in the 50s and low 60s this month.

Jim Bunker with the National Weather Service in Mount Holly tells The Press of Atlantic City southerly winds have created an upwelling effect, bringing colder water from the bottom of the ocean to near the surface.

Beachgoers shouldn't have to wait long for the surf to be in the 70s.

Bunker says the trend is changing and ocean temperatures are starting to return to normal.
