They held on as long as they could, but according to reports, the Sears at the Ocean County Mall will begin winding down operations over the next few weeks.

It was less than two years ago that Sears reassured Ocean County shoppers that the Hooper Avenue location was staying open, but according to a report from Business Insider, our local store is pegged for closure by the time spring arrives.

With Manahawkin's Kmart, also owned by Sears Holdings, closing shop in 2017, it's clear that the parent company has been eyeing Ocean County for some time.

According to the Business Insider report, "most of the stores will close by April".

As always, we'll keep an eye on the situation and report any further details as they become available.
