Ocean County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Extended
New dates added to Ocean County’s household hazardous waste collection schedule extend the campaign from late this month through early October.
In the past, says county Freeholder James Lacey, the dates were grouped into the span of about a month, twice a year in Spring and Autumn.
This year, he says, “we are holding the collection one day on a weekend each month…This should provide our residents with greater opportunities to get rid of items that could pose a hazard if kept in the home.”
New to the schedule are:
Sunday, June 23: Lakewood Township Public Works Yard, 1 America Avenue
Saturday, July 27: Berkeley Township Public Works Garage, Pinewald-Keswick Road
Saturday, August 24: Jackson Township Public Works Garage, 10 Don Connor Boulevard
Saturday, September 28: Long Beach Township Public Works Garage, 7910 Long Beach Boulevard
Saturday, October 5: Point Pleasant Beach Municipal Parking Lot, Arnold Avenue at Ocean Avenue
Collection times for all dates are 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM.
It’s a free service for residents and requires advance registration. It’s funded through taxes collected under New Jersey’s Recycling Enhancement Act Fund. Brooklyn-based Radiac Research is expected to conduct the collections at a rate of 40 cents per pound.
People can drop off up to 200 pounds of dry materials and up to 20 gallons of liquid. The maximum size per container for liquids is five gallons.
Acceptable materials include: house and boat paints; thinners; solvents; pool chemicals; pesticides and herbicides; aerosol cans; auto products; toilet and drain cleaners; silver polishes; oven cleaners; photography chemicals; rug and upholstery cleaners, polishes and bleaches; used motor oil and used gasoline.
