As the total solar eclipse gets closer, you may be looking for a way to SAFELY view the rare occurence - Novins Planetarium is here to help!

This will be the first total solar eclipse in the USA since 1979 and the first visible eclipse from all 48 contiguous United States (excluding Alaska and Hawaii) since June 8, 1918.

Even when the moon is covering the sun, it is dangerous to look directly at the sun with the naked eye. You can purchase eclipse glasses, or use the old pinhole technique - or you can head to the Novins Planetarium on the campus of Ocean County College in Toms River.

Novins will have telescopes with special solar filters set up at the planetarium to view the eclipse. No reservations are needed, just show up to OCC on August 21st!

If you want to experience the full eclipse, you'll have to travel a bit south, or a bit west. New Jersey is expected to get about 75% coverage. Fingers crossed for a cloud-free day!
