Nor’easter Spares New Jersey Its Worst

New Jersey is returning to normal after coming out of he nor'easter relatively unscathed with a minimum of power eoutages especially when compared to its effect on New York and New England where all roads in Connecticut and Massachusetts are closed to traffic.

NJ Transit says the Morris & Essex Lines (including Gladstone Branch service), Montclair-Boonton Lines and all Midtown Direct services will all be back in service as of 12noon. Bus service north of Interstate 195 remains was reinstated.earlier this morning.

Speed restrictions remain in effect on the New Jersey Turnpike north of exit 8A and on the Hudson River bridges and road crews are out meaning periodic slowdowns for traffic as plow "trains" form to clear highways.

The snow wound down in New Jersey this morning after 3-6 inches of snow over most of the state except for the northeastern corner where up to a foot of snow fell in some areas of north Jersey. Most areas in south Jersey received under an inch with Lumberton in Burlington County getting the most at 4 inches according to the National Weather Service.

Newark Airport along with LaGuardia and Kennedy Airports are already open but thousands of flights have been canceled according to the FAA's flight delay map

All advisories for New Jersey including Blizzard Watches have ended as skies becomes sunny and temperatures reach the lower 30s.

A Minimum Of Outages

There are only scattered power outages in New Jersey with only a handful of JCP+L customers without power in New Jersey according to their outage map. PSE+G reports the same on its outage map.

Chatham in Morris County picked up 14 inches and Butler received 12 inches according to the National Weather Service.  Rivervale in Bergen County received 15 inches Freehold picked up the most in central New Jersey with a report of 8 inches.

Governor Chris Christie is still urging people to stay off the roads in New Jersey this morning as road crews continue to work and deal with blowing and drifting.

 New York & New England Get Blasted

600,000 are without power in the six-state region as nearly two feet of snow has fallen so far. Massachusetts drivers are banned from the roads and the Long Island Expressway is closed in Suffolk County because so many cars got stuck on Friday night as the snow picked up intensity.
