MILLSTONE TOWNSHIP — A Brick woman was charged with stealing $1 million from her employer by giving herself unauthorized pay increases and writing herself company checks over the course of five years.

Virginia DeBerri, 52, pleaded guilty to second-degree theft from the township-based Foresight Enviroprobe, where she worked as a bookkeeper, State Police said Wednesday.

She faces a seven-year prison sentence.

The investigation began in 2015 when the company reported bank discrepancies to police.

Investigators said DeBerri manipulated the company's payroll and cashed more than 500 forged company checks.
