NJ weather: A bright, cool end to October

Warm temperatures will stay for one more day Thursday as the rain moves out making for a sunny start to the Halloween weekend.

A cold front pushing through New Jersey will clear out the the heavy rains from the overnight hours and bring in sunshine with temperatures in the 70s by afternoon. The sunshine will stick around on Friday but temperatures will be cooler with high temperatures more seasonal in the 50s.

The heavy rains the National Weather Service reports left between 2 and 3 inches of rain on Wednesday night and early Thursday caused high water on some lanes of Route 80, Route 287 and Route 35. All lanes, however, were fully opened by the Thursday morning commute as the rain pushed to the northeast.

Halloween Day will be a good day for pumpkin picking with continued sunny skies and temperatures almost near 60. Trick or treaters will be able to walk the neighborhood without a coat covering their costume as temperatures drop to the lower 50s under clear skies.

Daylight Savings Time comes to an end early on Sunday morning as clocks are pushed back one hour at 2 a.m.
