NJ Transit Gladstone Branch back to normal on Thursday morning

SUMMIT — NJ Transit's Gladstone Branch will be back to normal on Thursday morning after a day-long suspension.

More concrete fell on a train near Summit Station on Tuesday, forcing the closure of the tracks between Summit and Murray Hill, according to NJ Transit. Service on the branch was completely suspended on Wednesday for a complete daytime inspection to determine the source of the concrete.

It was the second suspension in two weeks on the branch, which is part of the Morris & Essex Line.

An electrical junction box mounted to the wall on the right-of-way was determined to be the cause of Tuesday night's damage and the damage two weeks ago.

"The contact with the junction box was due to a number of factors including the type of rail car and the slow speed at which trains operate in this vicinity. Emergency repairs are currently being conducted and will conclude prior to the start of service on Thursday," NJ Transit said in a statement.

Cross-honoring of tickets will come to an end with the restoration of service on Thursday.
