BARNEGAT — A township man has pleaded guilty to robbing eight banks in 2013 and 2014.

Appearing in federal court on Tuesday, Steven Wisnowski, 32, admitted robbing the banks including three in Edison and two in Brick within a week of each other, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said.

Documents show Wisnowski made off with over $31,000 from robberies at PNC Bank branches in Edison and Aberdeen, two TD Bank branches in Brick and Toms River, a Santander Bank in Brick, a Columbia Bank in Edison, and a PNC Bank in Aberdeen. Wisnowski also robbed a Ridgewood Savings Bank in Bayside, N.Y..

Fishman said that Wisnowski led tellers that he was armed during some of his hold ups and threatened to fire by pulling up his sweatshirt.. He always  wore hats, hooded jackets and wigs to hide his identity.

During his last robbery at the Fulton Bank in Edison Fishman said police had tracked his car to the bank and were waiting for him. Wisnowski tried to run off but was captured according to Fishman.

Each of Fishman's robberies carries a 20 year sentence and a $250,000 fine. He is scheduled to be sentenced on October 14.
