WINSLOW — Police say a man who crashed his pickup truck Friday had overdosed on heroin and was clutching empty bags of the drug when he was pulled from the overturned vehicle.

Matthew Guzman, 23, was unconscious and unresponsive behind the wheel of the Dodge. Police noticed the drug paraphernalia and administered the heroin antidote Narcan, which revived him.

Police say they found two hypodermic syringes and 23 baggies of heroin in the pickup.

Investigators say Guzman was traveling south on Spring Garden Road and crossed over the center line and through northbound traffic. he hit two trees and overturned on the side of the road near Ancora Hospital.

Guzman was treated and released from Virtua Voorhees Hospital.

He was charged with possession of drugs, possession with intent to distribute, possession of hyperdermic syringes, possession of drug paraphernalia and several motor-vehicle violations.
