NJ child porn suspect tried to grab cop’s gun, prosecutors say

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP — A township man not only is facing charges of sharing images of child sexual abuse, but he's also been accused of trying to take away the gun of an arresting officer.

Peifeng Meng, 43, was arrested Wednesday morning at his home by state Division of Criminal Justice detectives.

The state Attorney General's Office says Meng had downloaded 140 files child pornography onto his computer and was allowing other users on the Internet to access the files.

Prosecutors say two detectives were hurt in a "scuffle" with Meng, who allegedly "attempted to grab the handgun of one of the state detectives, but he was stopped from taking the gun and subdued."

In an statement Thursday announcing the arrest, Attorney General Chrisopher Porrino said people who share child porn help "motivate and create a market for the child predators who torture innocent children to create these vile materials."

Meng was charged with charged with second-degree distribution of 25 or more computer files of child pornography, third-degree possession of 100 or more files of child pornography, second-degree attempt to disarm a law enforcement officer and two counts of third-degree aggravated assault on an officer.

He was being held Thursday at Mercer County jail with bail set at $100,000, full cash only.

It was not immediately clear Thursday whether Meng had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
