We’ve had Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and now it’s Giving Tuesday.

https://www.givingtuesday.org/ is a good site that can find for you local charities that you could consider donating to.  Whether it’s time or money, if you want to give,  there’s usually a group that’s happy to receive.

With so much need in the world, how do you decide who to give to?  Can you trust that your donation will be put to good use and not just pay for the organization’s administrative costs?  Charity Navigator is a good resource.  It’s a New Jersey based organization whose website enables us to find charities all over the world.  They report on Financial Practices, Accountability and Transparency.  Here are two representatives of Charity Navigator with some helpful tips for this Giving Tuesday.

Using Rotary as an example, this link shows the type of data that you can access about any charity that’s listed on the website.  https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=4553

It might be wise to spend some time on http://www.charitynavigator.org/ today if you want to be part of Giving Tuesday.  Or at least check it out before the end of the calendar year if you want to factor your charitable contributions into your tax deductions.
