NEWARK — A young boy was killed early Saturday inside a home on the city's West Side.

Essex County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Thomas S. Fennelly confirmed only that one person had died in the shooting about 1:20 a.m. on the 800 block of 19th Street in the city's West Side.

The victim was a boy around the age of 10, according to  RLS Media Breaking News, which cited neighbors.

The investigation continued Saturday morning, Fennelly said.

 

This is the fourth fatal shooting in New Jersey’s largest city this week and the 11th homicide this year, according to published reports and city police crime data.

Quinzel Ward, 31, of Irvington, was shot and killed 3:41 a.m. Friday on the 100 block of Court Street, located about five blocks from the downtown federal court building.

Deborah Burton, 62, of Maplewood, was shot and killed about 3 p.m. Monday on 3rd Street in the Fairmount neighborhood of the West Ward.

Raquan Boundurant, 17, of Irvington, was shot and killed about 2 p.m. Sunday at Rose and Bergen streets in the Springfield/Belmont neighborhood of the Central Ward.

No arrests have been made in this week’s cases and prosecutors have not released other details.
