New Jersey's beach communities and state dignitaries will be kicking off the summer tourism season in Asbury Park next week. On Wednesday, May 21st, a press conference will be held on the boardwalk at the 5th Avenue Beach, followed by a reception.

On WOBM A-M's Townsquare Tonight, Asbury Park Tourism Director Tom Gilmour said "We'll be talking about what's going to happen this summer and i can share with you, we're preparing for a great summer right now." Gilmour explained, "last summer, all the beaches weren't quite there; just about every beach is ready to go this summer and we were trying to convince everybody last summer that the shore wasn't destroyed; we're here, we're alive and we're well."

Gilmour said coming soon, will be a regional arts destination at the Jersey shore. "We're creating a region called MOCO and we're going to advertise that region to attract people to come into the area because there are so many arts and our first initial effort will be called Matawan to Manasquan."

The summer kickoff press conference and reception is sponsored by the Monmouth Ocean Development Council (MODC), the Jersey Shore Convention and Visitor's Bureau and The LBI Region DMO. The press conference starts at 5 p.m. with the reception to follow at 5:30 at McLoone's Super Club at 1200 Ocean Avenue, Asbury Park, NJ.
