A Cream Ridge man who is also a student at New Egypt High School in Plumsted Township is arrested for allegedly threatening to shoot students and staff at the graduation ceremony in a social media post.

Matthew Vanderbeek, 19, is charged with 3rddegree Terroristic Threats with a Threat to Kill and 2nddegree Attempting to Possess a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose.

Ocean County Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit Det. Brant Uricks joined with Plumsted Township Police Det. Anthony Ringle on Tuesday to investigate an alleged threat made by Vanderbeek to shoot students and staff at the school’s graduation ceremony.

A search warrant was later approved and executed at Vanderbeek’s Hyacinth Court residence and check for weapons, additional evidence of the crime and to attempt to seize any communications made via phone or computer.

The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office’s CSI, as well as, their K-9 capable of detecting the presence of firearms or ammunition were involved in the search.

An investigation verified the threats made by Vanderbeek and authorities found that he was attempting to obtain a firearm.

Vanderbeek was arrested without incident and brought to the Ocean County Jail where he was lodged pending a detention hearing.

"The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office wants to make it clear that there is no present threat to the Plumsted Township School system or the graduation ceremony," OCPO Spokesman Al Della Fave said.

The public is reminded that criminal charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
