If someone appeared in your doorway after dark and claimed to be selling burglar alarms, would you automatically believe it? Well, neither did folks in one section of Monmouth's Ocean Township Tuesday night.

According to police, it was see-something, say-something for the caller who told them about the man and woman going door to door in the Wanamassa section between 6:45 and 7:50 PM.

The caller said they claimed to be canvassing for ADT Security Systems. Apparently, they expected to be taken at face value. But the caller checked with the company - and, not surprisingly, was told that, indeed, ADT had no solicitors in the area.

The next call was to police. Unfortunately, the pair slipped away and there are no surveillance images.

However, the woman is described as black, 25 to 30 years of age, about 5'4" tall, with a pierced lower lip.

Her companion is described as a black male, about 35 to 40 years old, with multiple earrings in each ear, and clad at the time in a grey hooded sweatshirt.

If aggressive or suspicious activity that appears to be door-to-door sales enters your neighborhood, regardless of the town in which you live, notify police.

In Ocean Township, reach them at 732-531-1800.
