A Neptune police officer is charged with first-degree murder following a shooting on an Asbury Park street.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office says Sgt. Phil Seidle, 51, was following his wife Tamara's 2012 Volkswagon Jetta in his own car when she hit a parked car.  Phil, traveling with the couple's 7-year-daughter stopped and fired multiple shots into the drivers side of the Jetta and then pointed the gun at himself before walking to the front of the Jetta and fired more shots into the windshield.

Phil again pointed the gun at his head prompting a brief standoff with Asbury Park and Neptune police before surrendering. He is being held on $2 million bail at the Monmouth County Correctional Institute on first degree murder, second degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and second degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child charges.

Sgt. Seidle is a 22-year veteran of the Neptune Township police and a U.S. Navy veteran.
