The shooting death of a Lakewood man in Neptune Township before dawn today sparks a search for suspects by local and Monmouth County investigators.

Mark Ruffin Sr., 41, was found wounded within the Jumping Brook Apartment complex on Route 33, not long after 911 dispatchers fielded a flurry of reports of gunfire at about 12:37 AM, according to the office of Monmouth County Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni.

Officers rendered first aid until emergency medical technicians arrived and moved Ruffin to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where lifesaving efforts continued until he was pronounced dead at 2:47 AM, authorities said.
