Neighbors’ noise feud ends in murder-suicide, Bergen prosecutor says

HACKENSACK — Police have identified the two men they say were involved in a dispute that started as a long simmering disagreement between neighbors and ended in a murder-suicide Sunday morning.

Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said James Bellamy, 66, and Arthur Hillman, 63, lived at 5 Linden St., where police were called just after 9 a.m. Sunday. According to Grewal, Bellamy lived one floor above Hillman, who had made several noise complaints against his upstairs neighbor.

Grewal said Bellamy's body was found by police next to the building's elevator with multiple gunshot wounds. Hillman's body was found with a single gunshot wound in a car in the building's parking lot. Police also found a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun, and a loaded .38 caliber weapon on HIllman's body.

The .40 caliber is believed to be the weapon used in the murder/suicide and Grewal said investigators determined there was nobody else involved in the incident.
