More than 47,000,000 pounds of frozen, uncooked or not-ready-to-eat meat and poultry products, possibly tainted by Listeria monocytogenes, are under recall by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

Ajinomoto Windsor, Inc., based in Texas, California, Missouri and Oregon, produced the heat-treated, not-fully-cooked items between May 1, 2014 and May 1, 2016.

USDA officials say that there have been no reports of ailments, but the company was notified by CRF Frozen Foods that its vegetables used in Ajinomoto products were part of a voluntary, listeriosis-related recall of frozen produce.

Listeriosis is treated with antiobiotics. It primarily affects older adults, people with weak immune systems, pregnant women and newborns. Symptoms, which can surface within two months, include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions, sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal problems.

An invasive infection moving beyond the gastrointestinal tract can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or infections in newborns.

Anyone developing symptoms is urged to get medical care and tell the health provider about the food consumption.
