A Toms River man attacks a township officer after he is woken up from a snooze in a stranger's car.

Police Captain Steven Henry says officers were requested to a Coolidge Ave. residence on the report of a naked man, sleeping in a vehicle belonging to the caller.  Officers Richard Karkovice and Samantha Sutter approached the man, later identified as 32 year old Michael Harris, who was sleeping naked in the passenger seat of the vehicle.

"Officer Karkovice advised Harris that this was not his car and ordered him to exit the vehicle," says Henry.  "At this time, Harris attacked Officer Karkovice, repeatedly striking and kicking him."

As both officers removed Harris from the car, he continued to violently resist after being handcuffed by thrashing about and attempting to kick the officers.

Harris faces charges of Criminal Trespass, Disorderly Conduct, Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest. Officer Karkovice received minor injuries to his arms and hands. He was treated at Community Medical Center and released. Harris is lodged in the Ocean County Jail on $5,000 bail.
