I resolve not to make a new year's resolution.

There, I already broke my resolution, now I can move on with my year.

Ok seriously... I have nothing against new year's resolutions, I just think they tend to be more difficult than we intend. Or, on the flip side, laughably simple. Obviously the idea of a new year's resolution is to give yourself a personal challenge to better yourself in the new year. But a lot of times we just end up disappointing ourselves. You know how the gym looks for the first couple weeks of the new year, crowded with people trying to keep up with their promises to get fit. But by mid-March at best the workout population dwindles. Don't get me wrong, I'm right there with the best of the resolution breakers so I have no place to criticize.

But that's why I'm keeping it simple and general this year...I want to treat others the way I'd like to be treated, and try to be successful at projects I undertake in 2012.

A cop-out? Maybe. I'm not promising to run a triathlon, quit a bad habit, or travel to some exotic locale, but I'm trying not to set myself up for disappointment by keeping the goal at something I know I can accomplish.

That being said, if you've set a tough new year's resolution for yourself, I say go for it! I genuinely hope you succeed and on December 31st, 2012 I hope you look back with pride on your accomplishments of the year.
