Lakewood Police Sergeant Maureen McGilloway tells TheLakewoodScoop.com the Street Crimes Unit spotted a wanted suspect in a vehicle on Ocean Avenue  around 7 p.m. Friday night and directed a marked unit to stop the car. But the suspect eluded police and continued driving, according to McGilloway.

Sergeant McGilloway says when the suspect spotted detectives he rammed into an unmarked vehicle, injuring one of the detectives. The suspect then ran from his vehicle and a foot chase ensued. Several officers chased the suspect into a swampy area and arrested him.

The detective suffered a leg injury. Meanwhile, other officers suffered injuries to the leg and hand. They were all treated at Kimball Medical Center and released.

The suspect , who was reportedly under the influence of a substance at the time, faces multiple charges and was transported to the Ocean County Jail .
