As I'm about to embark on a vacation with my sister and niece, I've been thinking more about that topic of sharing space during vacation.  I thought you might be interested in some of the comments that were posted by experienced vacationers and home hosts.

Some folks don't like the idea of setting House Rules.  They said:

Don't sweat the small stuff.  Accept the fact that some people are messier than you. Just tell them to rein their stuff in, so it's all together (in a corner, for example.)

Relax and enjoy every minute.  Don't make everything a chore. Make more memories instead of more rules.

Have an "expectation conversation" with everyone.  After everyone has said what they expect, it's easier to establish behaviors rather than rules.

But other comments were supportive of House Rules.

Treat the house as your own.  Share responsibilities.

Wash the dishes or load them in the dishwasher.  Don't leave them out.

And finally, a rule that gave me a chuckle:  You must wear pants!  No walking around in Tighty Whities!

Are you more of a "House Rules" type of person or "Live and Let Live?"
