Monmouth County Democratic Organization Chairman Vin Gopal tells The Aslsociated Press that Monmouth County Democrats have voted to back her.

The county Democrats hope that by endorsing the only declared challenger to Republican Gov. Chris Christie they'll break the logjam that has paralyzed the party since Newark Mayor Cory Booker decided not to run.

PolitickerNJ reports the endorsement will become official on Thursday.

Buono, of Middlesex County, is not the choice of the most powerful factions of the party. Her only other county organization endorsement has come from Somerset.

Democratic powerbrokers have been hoping better-known state Sen. Dick Codey or U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell enter the race.

Codey is seeking funding for a race from state labor and party organizations according to the Star Ledger and is making a trip to Washington to talk to national leaders. He told the paper that it would take a "significant" amount of money for him to enter the race but didn't specify an amount.
