Madsen has been missing since 2009, when she went for a walk in Seaside Park and never returned.  Despite a $50,000 reward posted by her family, no information on her whereabouts has ever been discovered.

Now, the family's attorney is filing the paperwork to have her declared legally dead, and her son Guy says it's time to say goodbye.

"We've never had a service for her soul or her passing or a wake or anything because they've never found anything from her," Guy Madsen said.  "So for a sense of closure, at least a small amount of closure, we need to have a Catholic service, in order to allow us close this chapter, celebrate her spirit, bless her soul, and give us a chance to hug each other in remembrance of my mom."

The family will hold a memorial Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 7pm at Guy Madsen's home in South Seaside Park, very near the place where Julia Madsen was last seen.
