CARNEYS POINT — A travel plaza was evacuated Saturday night after a man left two military containers marked "projectile" and "communications" near the gas pumps then drove away.

Carneys Point Police Det. Sgt. Dale VanNamee told NJ Advance Media that a man in a pickup truck with Delaware plates left the containers near the gas pumps at the Flying J.  Travel Plaza on U.S. Route 140 somewhere around 10:15 or 10:30 p.m.

The area around the gas pumps as well as the Flying J store and Denny's Restaurant were evacuated, and traffic in the immediate area was shut down as the New Jersey State Police Bomb Unit checked the containers for explosives, according to NJ Advance Media. None were found and the area was re-opened just after 1 a.m., the article states.

According to the report, the man who left the empty containers was found and police plan to question him.
