Micro-housing is being touted as a solution towards tackling homelessness in the state and a model micro-home will be on display in Point Pleasant Borough later this month.

On Thursday, the council of Point Pleasant Borough gave the go ahead for a model micro-home to be displayed in front of town hall from September 21st to the 28th.

The micro-homes are a project spearheaded by Thomas O’Malley of Catholics and Friends with Hearts for the Homeless.

The homes, which are roughly the size of a shipping container feature of the needed amenities for a person to live in, including showers, sinks, and kitchen area. The group hopes the low cost homes will allow homeless individuals to afford to establish a residency and get back on their feet.

“[The homes] are economically sound and it is humanitarian uplift for those who need our help,” said O’Malley.

According to O’Malley, Point Borough was chosen as a location to display the homes because the community was hit hard by Superstorm Sandy, leaving many without a place to live.

The micro-homes will be open during the day and will be staffed to show visitors the interiors and answer any questions.
