Small pieces of metal have been washing up on the shores of Long Beach Island. According to Patch-Dot-Com, State Environmental Protection Department officials as well as local health officials are monitoring the situation.

The NJDEP says the metal fragments spotted by beach goers from 11th to 14th streets in Beach Haven appear to be pieces of wiring from old dune fencing destroyed by Sandy. They're asking beach goers who encounter metal debris to notify beach patrols.

If a lifeguard is not available, beach goers can contact the local police, the local health department, or the DEP hotline at 1-877-WARN-DEP or waterwaydebris@dep.state.nj.us.
