Men vs. Woman on the Road

While I hate to generalize (which we all do) I know today’s segment is not going to be well received by women drivers.

I don’t have any research or statistics to back up the following statement but I feel very strongly about it based on 40 plus years of driving and observation.  Okay, here I go: men are more courteous on the road then women and it’s not even close.

Now I should clarify my interpretation of courtesy.  You are trying to enter the roadway from a parking lot and there’s a steady stream of traffic.  You need someone to slow down, flash their headlights or wave their hand to indicate you can cut in front of them and proceed ahead.

In this scenario even though it’s obvious you are trying to enter the roadway female drivers will ignore you, stare straight ahead and won’t let you in.  It’s not that they can’t see you but they refuse to make eye contact., sort of an out of sight, out of mind thing. Fortunately a good percentage of men behind the wheel don’t act that way and before too long you can count on one to come to your rescue.

I know you are thinking: this is a load of you-know-what but I’m telling you it’s not.

We men have much more sympathy for our fellow drivers and are more likely to go out of our way and help someone simply by showing a little courtesy. Another example: you are trying to make a left turn with a solid line of traffic coming straight at you and no break coming.  It’s going to be a male driver who will stop and allow you to make the turn and you can take that to the bank.

I realize there are other ways to measure courtesy on the road and in many of those men fail badly.  We are probably more likely to drive overly aggressive, speed, run a red light, tailgate, make obscene gestures (guilty as charged). You get the picture.  However I will stick by my guns that the members of the male driving species are more likely to be the one who gives you a break when you need it.

So what do you think?
