Mega Millions Jackpot Grows To Near Record
There was no winner in Friday night’s Mega Millions drawing which sends the jackpot amount to near record levels.
The numbers drawn Friday night are: 19,24,26,27,70 and the Mega Ball is 12. The Megaplier is 2.
There were 9 tickets sold across the country matching five numbers but not the Mega Ball; one of those tickets was sold in New Jersey for the second drawing in a row. The other tickets were sold in Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Michigan and New York.
Tuesday’s drawing will have an annuity value of $550 million, the second highest jackpot in Mega Millions history, passed only by the $656 million jackpot won in March,2012.. It will also be the fourth highest jackpot ever offered in lottery in the United States.
Tuesday’s drawing has a cash value of $295 million.
Paula Otto, the Virginia Lottery’s executive director and Mega Millions’ lead director, told The Associated Press early Saturday that she expects the amount to rise even higher before the drawing.
“We’ve never had a jackpot at this level in December leading into the holidays,” Otto said. “If we keep rolling, we could well be at a billion dollars going into Christmas.”
But each time the lottery fails to produce a jackpot, as it now has 21 straight times on this run, the pot gets even larger. That increases the number of tickets sold while decreasing the chances that nobody will win.
