Each week, we team up with the Popcorn Park Zoo and adopt a dog or a cat as part of our Pet of the Week!  Here's Chance's story:

This bright-eyed and hopeful boy is Chance, a pit/boxer mix that is barely two years old and really deserves a chance at a great life. Chance came from a downright awful home and he is so happy to be safe and cared for now. Our animal control officer was called out one night to remove Chance from the home because he bit his owner. We later found out that the reason Chance bit was because he was being beaten every single day of his life in order to make him "tough". Chance had every right to defend himself and we certainly don't hold it against him. He was a bit leery of new people when he arrived, and understandably so, but once he got to know everyone, he made lots of new friends and is now loving life! Those beatings didn't succeed in toughening up Chance at all because his caretaker describes him as being a "marshmallow". All he wants to do is play and get attention. He craves human interaction and just wants people to treat him with kindness and respect. Chance is a strong boy that could use some training with walking on a leash, but he is very well behaved otherwise and will sit perfectly when asked. He is also very gentle with taking toys and treats. Chance will need a home with no cats but seems ok with dogs his own size. If you can give Chance the loving, safe home that he deserves, please come in and meet this sweet boy.
