Matthew Kaminsky, 49, appeared in a Trenton federal courtroom this afternoon to respond to charges of receiving and producing child pornography images through the Internet, according to the office of New Jersey U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman.

Receiving child pornography carries a possible term of five to 20 years. The count of producing images includes a mandatory 15- to 30-year sentence. Each also carries a possible fine of up to $250,000.

According to investigators, Kaminsky engaged several underage girls through online chat rooms and sent pictures of himself unclothed to them.

In late January 2015, he allegedly solicited one of the teens to reciprocate. Investigators said that she confirmed the details in an interview.

Kaminsky's computer equipment was seized in March 2015. Authorities said that it contained what appeared to be images and videos of child sexual abuse.

The U.S. Attorney's office did not indicate whether Kaminsky had retained an attorney. The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Molly Lorber.
