A drug kingpin has been sentenced to life in prison after earlier pleading guilty to all charges lodged against him.

Dectric Rawls, 32, of Matawan received life in prison today after being convicted for his leadership role in a Bayshore heroin distribution ring.

Rawls pleaded guilty to all charges in April.

In July 2008, authorities launched an investigation into Rawls’ drug ring, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation revealed that Rawls sold about 100 bricks of heroin a week, with a street value of $25,000.  A brick of heroin usually has 50 bags or packets of heroin.

In 2009, Rawls and 18 associates were arrested  November 16, all were charged in connection with the heroin distribution activities. that same day, a search of Rawls home on Fredwood Place in Matawan revealed 63 bricks of heroin, a handgun and more than $28,000, the prosecutor’s office says.  Authorities later searched a storage facility in Morganville, NJ and found an additional $258,491 tucked away in a safe.

Dectric Rawls is required to serve at least 25 years of the sentence before being eligible for parole.
