First of all, there’s not that many good college players. Less than one percent are going to play in the NBA. What about the other 99 percent that are getting a free education? Think about it ~ Charles Barkley

So the NCAA basketball tournament is underway and so is the discussion of "March Money". Millions will be made every year, but the athletes remain unpaid....or are they? I believe that they should not be paid. My opinion is that a "free" college education is well worth it to play a "game". It took me years to pay off my student loan and if I could've played a sport in return for a "free" education I so would have done it. The notion that you could get hurt playing sports and end a "potential" pro career .... that is just a part of playing sports, which so many college students do ... not just the big money sports teams. Add up tuition, housing, books, supplies, meals etc and the cost can be staggering. That dollar amount and maybe playing the equivalent of two years straight of sports .... that's a deal. Keep in mind also that these players are not being forced to participate.

So stop with “money” talk and play ball … or don’t and get a student loan like most American kids ~ Shawn Michaels

Lets also look at what money can do to college sports. If you add $ to college play it will take the pureness out of the games, no matter what sport. Add money to anything and it becomes all about greed. Isn't that what most people like about college sports ... the lack of greed. Once you add money (pay checks), you end college sports.

If you want to see more for the "student-athlete" then take some of the money made on various sports and extend the ability for continuing education (which means better jobs) and buying needed equipment for institutions to keep pace with growing educational needs. Make the television networks set up various scholarships for all types of students....there may already be something like this.  It's ridiculous when you think of how much college athletes are given in "educational dollars" compared to the average salary of our U.S. Military Members ... So stop with "money" talk and play ball ... or don't and get a student loan like most American kids ....By the way I took Kentucky to win it all.
