Many Shore Residents Will Skip Holidays This Year [AUDIO]

Less than two weeks to go before Christmas and the holiday season looks a lot different at the shore.

They lost nearly everything. The residents of Green Island and Silverton, sections of the Toms River mainland suffered some of the worst damage from Superstorm Sandy.

"I'm gutting everything, I had nearly four feet of water in my basement, it was unbelievable," said Judy from Toms River.

"I can't even get into my home, right now I have contractors coming, its still very bad," said Ellen from Green Island.

For some, the holidays are the furthest thing on their minds.

"I'm not really in much of a holiday spirit," said Carl, as he cleaned out his garage.

"I'm not putting up decorations, a tree, we aren't doing any of that this year," said Bill from Toms River.

"I actually host a few parties during the holidays, but not now," said another woman.

Some say the storm won't change their holiday plans.

"I'm going to my mom's house up north and we will still have great food and good times," said one man outside his Ocean County home.

"We need to put the clean-up aside and be with family and friends," said Mary. "Next year we will have an even bigger and better holiday after we all put our lives back together," she added.

Others say its times like these that bring people close together.

"Everyone is taking care of each other, offering us places to stay, its been amazing," said Carl.

"It is very sad, because you lost everything, but we are all alive, that's what matters," said another woman as she carried out bags of trash from her home. "We will get through this."
