Manchester Police bring a new recruit on board. Michael Guarino, 23, of Manahawkin, rose to the top of a list of 290 applicants on the strength of training and an extensive background investigation.

The addition of Guarino sets the Manchester force's personnel level at 66. He's got an Associates' Degree in Applied Science from Bergen County Community College and has graduated the Ocean County Police Academy in Waretown.

Guarino also holds a New Jersey Police Training Commission SLEO Class II certification.

For the next 12 weeks, Guarino works the streets with veteran officers and gets his training in township and police procedures.
