Manchester Police are investigating a one vehicle crash that leaves the driver shaken and passenger badly injured and airlifted to a local trauma center.

Township police said they responded to the accident on Manchester Boulevard at 1:17 pm. The driver, 50-year-old Laure Fusciello of Whiting, was traveling in at 1993 Toyota Corolla east-bound when she attempted to avoid an unidentified road hazard. Fusciello said that's when she lost control of her vehicle, crossed into the west-bound lane, then off the roadway and into a tree.

Fusciello sustained a minor injury to her knee but her passenger, 50-year-old Laura Bowker of Keyport, was airlifted with internal injuries to her lower extremities. Police said both driver and passenger were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.

The crash is being investigated by Officer Higgins and Officer Lynch of the Manchester Traffic Safety Section. The asking witnesses to contact them at 732-657-6111.

Police are also asking motorists to be aware of road hazards and pot holes, especially during winter months.
