Manalapan Waitress Gets 30 Years For Child Sexual Assaults
A Manalapan waitress will be calling a federal prison home for the next 30 years for the sexual abuse of a 5-year-old girl she baby-sat.
Officials in New Jersey's U.S. Attorney's Office says the investigation that led to 33-year-old Jennifer Mahoney began on the other side of the country while they were looking into streamed child pornographic images received on a Texas man's computer.
There they found a laughing Mahoney recorded from Skype physically abusing a child in her care. Law enforcement officials say the assaults took place on a number of occasions. Mahoney also recorded at least one incident on her iPhone and e-mailed the video to another person. She also admitted to viewing other videos of child sexual abuse streamed to her using Skype.
In additionto the prison term, Mahoney was sentenced to lifetime supervised release, with restricted contact with minors and computer-use monitoring. She must also register as a sex offender.
On December 13, 2011, the FBI and other law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at Mahoney's home. They also previously seized the computer of a Texas man with whom Mahoney communicated. Officials say during the two searches they recovered three videos of Mahoney having sexual contact with a child.
The case was part of a nationwide crackdown on child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in 2006.
