The Manahawkin doctor accused of needlessly prescribing narcotics in 2013 appears headed for trial.

Dr. Liviu T. Holca was indicted on 25 related counts in Ocean County Superior Court in Toms River.

He'scharged with a second-degree count if distribution of Percocet, a Schedule 2 narcotic, and a third-degree charge of distributing Xanax, a Schedule 4 narcotic, in volumes exceeding an ounce, with no medical necessity attached.

Holca also faces two marijuana possession counts, along with possession of firearms during a Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) offense, and a second-degree charge of money laundering.

According to information from the office of Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato, evidence accumulated during eight undercover operations centered on Holca's Beacon Avenue office and his home in July and August 2013.

Holca voluntarily turned in his license for temporary suspension by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners in June of this year. It remains in effect until a plenary hearing to be conducted by the Board.
