It was almost like a scene from a futuristic science fiction movie. Last week, an Australian man flew around the Statue of Liberty wearing a jetpack.

David Mayman lifted off, flew over the Hudson River, circling Lady Liberty in a jetpack he developed along with inventor Nelson Tyler, according to NJ.com.

The jetpack took JetPack Aviation more than a decade to develop and make a reality. The creators say it can soar to 10,000 feet through the air.

"The two men say this is the first time the viability of personal flying devices has been proven," NJ.com reports.
