Neighbors called Brick Police to report what they thought was a domestic disturbance at 141 Meridian Drive around 5:30 a.m., according to Ocean County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Al Della Fave

Officers responding to the 911 call were met by "an alleged armed male subject which results in a police involved shooting," Della Fave said.

A preliminary investigation concluded the man was involved in a physical assault on two females who were hospitalized. Della Fave said it wasn't clear if the assault happened in the home.

Della Fave did not disclose the identity of anyone involved in the incident.

The incident is the second violent domestic dispute in Ocean County within the past week.  Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph Coronato said that Kimberly Dunphey, 48 and her son Owen Scott were both killed by blunt force trauma inside their home on Nautilus Drive in Lacey Township on Wednesday, during what Coronado said was a marital dispute.

Husband Gregg Scott, 51, is suspected to be the perpetrator. He died from self inflicted injuries at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
