Forecasters say that if Sandy passes across the coast between Atlantic City and Belmar around the time of high tide on Monday evening it could being long duration tidal flooding and road closures. Ocean waves will be at 15-20 feet during high tide and could cause “considerable damage” to beachfront properties.

4-8 inches of rain are expected and rivers are not expected to be able to take it to the ocean quickly enough to avoid flooding. A tidal surge of 3-5 feet will combine to increase the odds of coastal flooding.

If Sandy passes the coast south of Sandy Hook during high tide that area could experience major flooding.

High tides in Monmouth & Ocean counties are around 8:00AM and 8:20PM on Monday, in Atlantic City at 7:40AM and 8PM and in Cape May 8:49AM and 9:09 PM. The period of high tide will be longer than usual.
