We see this a few times a year - one of the major multi-state lotteries didn't have a winner in the last drawing, pushing the next jackpot to jaw-dropping heights.

Tuesday's Mega Millions numbers didn't match any tickets, so the next jackpot will be stretching above $500 million.

According to USAToday, the last time a Mega Millions jackpot was hit was when a Florida 20-year-old scored the grand prize of $451 million in January.

And if you were wondering, he took the lump sum. While Uncle Sam took his fair share of taxes, the payout of $281.87 million still isn't half bad!

That $500 million number, by the way, was as of this morning. As more people buy more tickets, the jackpot will continue to grow. As of right now it would be the 4th largest jackpot in Mega Millions history.

I say go for it, a few bucks for a few tickets could look pretty great if you end up with a half-billion dollar payday! The next drawing is Friday night.
